Independent Spirit Awards 2013

November 27th, 2013 - Graham Eley

Oscar frontrunner, ’12 Years a Slave’, received most nominations at the 29th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards, with its tally of seven including best film, director (Steve McQueen) and actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor) as widely predicted.

More interesting were the fellow nominees for best film from a very competitive field.  They include two other serious Oscar contenders, ‘Nebraska’ and ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ and outsider ‘All Is Lost’ but there was no place for other award season hopefuls, ‘Dallas Buyers Club’, ‘Blue Jasmine’ and ‘Before Midnight’.  ‘Frances Ha’, which has an outside chance of picking up best actress and original screenplay Oscar nominations, completes the list.
