Social media buzz drives ‘The Fault in Our Stars’
Fan girls’ huge social media buzz translated into box office success as Josh Boone’s adaptation of John Green’s bestseller, ‘The Fault in Our Stars’, starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, landed in North America with a spectacular $26m opening Friday (including late Thursday previews). An additional boost of an ‘A’ CinemaScore from first night audiences and strong reviews – currently 82% on Rotten Tomatoes – puts it on pace for a $52m winning weekend, $15m more than pre-release market expectations. The tragic young adult drama is Boone’s second feature following ‘Stuck in Love’ two years ago.
The weekend’s other wide release, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ grossed a soft $10.6m (inc late Thursday screenings) in second place and will likely stutter to a low $30m over the three days notwithstanding very good reviews – 89% on RT – and a decent ‘B+’ CinemaScore. This is against the backdrop of a massive $178m budget and Warner Bros is already looking towards the international markets for a bailout.
Last weekend’s No. 1, ‘Maleficient’, was only $0.6m behind for a strong second Friday hold. It should secure second place over the entire weekend with a solid a $35m, after factoring in family appeal, which would represent a low 50% fall for the genre.buy cialis sydney cialis sale canada generic cialis 5mg online generic cialis cvs cialis online pay with paypal cheapest cialis 20mg online buy cialis online u.s. pharmacy
