After a flying start at the international box office last weekend, Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Oblivion’ continued in the same vein during its North American debut, grossing a strong 13.3m on Friday. Strong word of mouth continues to drive last weekend’s box office winner, ’42’, which earned $5.2m on Friday. The Jackie Robinson biopic should play well over Saturday and Sunday and earn approximately $17m in total.
DreamWorks’ 3D animation, ‘The Croods’, grossed a solid $2.2m in third place at the start of its fifth week in play. The prehistoric adventure could take as much as $9m over the weekend after allowing for its appeal amongst family matinee audiences.
