Michael Bay’s ‘Pain & Gain’ under-performed at the North American box office, returning $7.5m on its Friday debut.  The bodybuilding action comedy will find it no easier over the remainder of the weekend after receiving a ‘C+’ CinemaScore and seems set for a $19.5m finish.

 

Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Oblivion’, coming off a strong No. 1 opening last weekend, grossed a respectable $5.1m in second place.  The sc-fi adventure should take approximately $17m over the three days.

 

Brian Helgeland’s ’42’ grossed a further $2.9m at the start of its third weekend.  The Jackie Robinson biopic, which has benefited from very positive word of mouth, looks on course for a $10m weekend.
