International box office (January 4-6, 2013)

‘Life of Pi’ wrestled the top spot from ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ at the weekend international box office after grossing $60.1m from 65 markets for a new running total of $302m.  Ang Lee’s sea adventure returned an impressive $14.1m in Russia, being  one of seven No 1’s from territories where it opened over the weekend.

 

‘The Hobbit’ was close behind, taking a further $57m over the three days.  After factoring in North America, Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth epic now stands at over $820m worldwide.

 

Overall, the international markets fell by 43% since last week.
