Locarno Preview: Lucie Borleteau’s ‘Fidelio’ (‘L’Odyssee d’Alice’)

Lucie Borleteau, who had a ‘collaborator’ writing credit on Claire Denis’ ‘White Material’, makes her feature debut in the director’s chair with ‘Fidelio’ (‘L’Odyssee d’Alice’).  Based on a script that she wrote with Clara Bourreau, Alice of the film’s sub-title embarks upon an odyssey of relationships and love as well as another more conventional type on the high seas.  A strong cast includes Ariane Labed, winner of Venice’s best actress for ‘Attenberg’, Melvil Poupaud (‘Laurence Always’) and Anders Danielsen Lie (‘Oslo, August 31st’).
