Locarno Preview: Yury Bykov’s ‘The Fool’ (‘Durak’)

Russian filmmaker, Yury Bykov, came to the fore with his sophomore feature and festival hit, ‘The Major’, which debuted in Cannes’ Critics Week and won the Golden Goblet at Shanghai.  Kirill Polukhin and Boris Nevzorov both return for Bykov’s follow up, ‘The Fool’ (‘Durak’) and star alongside Darya Moroz (‘The Spot’).  It pitches corrupt bureaucrats against a foreman fighting to save occupiers of a dangerous building in what appears a pretty blatant political analogy.
