Marc Forster’s ‘World War Z’ expanded from 25 to 50 international markets and grossed a strong $70.1m in first place at the weekend box office. The Zombie pandemic thriller, which has overcome its well publicised production nightmares against the odds, has now taken an early $135.3m internationally. Russia proved to be its strongest market with an impressive $12.3m for Brad Pitt’s highest ever opening in the territory.
Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ continued its strong international run, taking another $52.2m over the three days. The Superman adventure’s international tally now stands at $271.7m, and after factoring in North America, it has crossed the $500m milestone worldwide.
Pixel/Disney’s ‘Monsters University’ had another strong weekend, grossing $44.2m from 37 markets. It takes the ‘Monsters Inc’ prequel to $129.3m internationally.
Running close behind, ‘Despicable Me 2’, grossed a superb $41.5m from just seven territories ahead of its North American debut on Wednesday.
